About Local 1828
Welcome to the website of Fire District 1 Professional Fire Fighters, IAFF Local 1828. We are the labor organization that represents the 188 career Firefighters, Firefighter/Paramedics, Captains, and Battalion Chiefs that work from 12 fire stations located throughout Southwest Snohomish County.
Local 1828 grew from a few paid firefighters, working in a handful of fire stations, serving a mostly rural area, to one of the largest and most progressive fire districts in the state. Today our members respond annually to over 25,000 calls for service by providing fire suppression, medical aid, technical rescue and hazardous materials response. We proudly protect the more than 225,000 citizens living within 46 square miles of Edmonds, Mountlake Terrace, Brier, Woodway, Mariner, Esperance, Eastmont, Silver Firs, Martha Lake, Lake Serene, and Hilltop.
Additionally our members donate their off duty time with Honor Guard duties, Fire 1 Foundation , and other charity benefits such as community events, and MDA Fill the Boot. Our members routinely collect tens of thousands of dollars in donations for MDA and always set high marks in Washington State.
Our members also participate in the annual Columbia Center Tower Climb in Seattle. Firefighters from across the nation and world gather to compete for the best time ascending 69 floors of Seattle’s tallest building while wearing full firefighting gear and breathing apparatus, which averages 75 pounds of additional weight. The proceeds from the tower climb benefit The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
